The Hands-On Approach!
You're not the "chairforce" nor a new grunt. You're the hands on type who doesn't want some electronic contraption brewing your favorite 3 Clicks Roast. You know things. And one of those things is how to make a good brew! So to you, we present this all-manual percolator.
- Typically will use 2 cups of water per cup of coffee (adjust for taste)
- You need to measure 1 tablespoon of coffee per 5 ounces of water for a stronger brew. 1 teaspoon for a lighter brew.
- Spread your grounds around the bottom of the basket before inserting it into the percolator. This will help the brewing process.
- Turn your burner on medium high heat (if you use a gas stove, you need to leave it there to make sure the coffee percolates correctly).
- Don't let the water boil or simmer. Just get it hot and adjust the stove temp accordingly. You don't want to see steam pouring out. This will help prevent burning of coffee.
- You must brew your coffee for 7-10 minutes depending on desired strength of flavor. Set a timer when you see the coffee start to percolate to ensure you don't let it go to long.
- Once it is done brewing let the percolator sit with the heat off (electric stove, move it off the hot burner) so the water can drain from the basket.
- Be sure to CAREFULLY remove the basket with the spent coffee grounds.
- Keep the pot warm on the stove (on low).
- Course Grounds and lighter roasts tend to do better in percolators.
